For several years I have been playing with a personally customised rosin recipe from Leatherwood Bespoke Rosin on my bows. This rosin absolutely overwhelmed me: the responsiveness of the contact point, which goes hand in hand with an enormous intensity and sound density, the carrying capacity of the sound and above all the design options are really on a unique level. The fact that problematic contact point zones are easier to control makes it easier for me to implement many colors and ideas on my instrument. A nice bonus is that the rosin hardly produces any dust and it really lasts a long time. I have recommended Leatherwood to many friends and colleagues who are now enthusiastically using Leatherwood as it minimizes many problems and creates new opportunities for them too. I urge everyone to try the different Leatherwood recipes, because with them you can find a partner for your musical life. I found mine in the 65% Crisp / 35% Supple.
"Before thinking of buying a new bow, try Leatherwood Bespoke Rosin. The impact it has on the sound is just phenomenal!"
“I have recently used the Baroque Violin rosin recipe in rehearsals, concerts and recordings and I am literally ecstatic! It is a soft rosin that is precise and effective in sound response, exactly what I've been looking for a long time!”
We spend hours considering the tiniest of nuances in our performance, yet often don’t consider that all-important layer between bow and string. Leatherwood Rosin has added new and pleasing dimensions to my playing and I highly recommend spending your valuable time discovering this product. I’m converted."
"I love performing with my bespoke rosin blend in all my concerts! It helps my Stradivari sound the best it can be in all types of performances. The rosin is much more important than you think.. I also love that you can create your own blend to find the perfect sound!"
"Playing gut strings can bring a beauty of sound and allow nuance of articulation which is magical. The choice of rosin is crucial for enhancing these qualities. I am extremely happy with the baroque Leatherwood Rosin which is the best rosin I have had the pleasure of using for my historical violones. "
“I'm really struck by rosin; having an ideal sound in the mind and trying to reproduce it has always been the greatest mission for musicians. Finally I have found a product that reaches all my desires; the adhesion to the strings is perfect, the sound that I can produce is round and warm, and, at the same time, is clean and bright in the spiccato. Noises of friction and excess of Rosin on the strings are just a bad memory! From now on, there will always be Leatherwood Bespoke Rosin in my case!"
"Since last year, I have been only using the Leartherwood Bespoke Rosin, both Supple and Crisp for my bows. Personally, I think that Supple gives perfect texture between the bow and string without getting sticky on the bow. It has great possibilities to produce different depths of the sound and also helps to produce endless resonance on the strings from the frog to last edge of the tip. Crisp fits perfectly to project a brighter sounds and fast playing, like baroque or classical repertories, for examples for the operas of Mozarts and Beethoven cello sonatas. In my experience, it even works well when I combine the rosins at the same time. Leatherwood Bespoke Rosin also preserves the bow hair much longer than others. Since I have used this rosin, I don’t have to rehair my bows as often. I congratulate Andrew Baker deeply and thank him for the great invention and love to this product and look forward to use it continuously for my cello playing in future."
“To create great music you need a fabulous sound. Leatherwood Bespoke Rosin is the only rosin I’ve found which gives an undeniably larger, warmer tone. Try this rosin and feel it revolutionise your playing - it certainly did for me!”

"Leatherwood Bespoke Rosin ultimately connects my body to the Cello. The instrument has to suit the musician perfectly, the bow has to suit both musician and instrument and finally a rosin that fits seamlessly! From bursting wood to flickering lights - all sounds are just exciting!"
"Leatherwood rosin is the perfect choice for my playing, both on historical and modern instruments. The array of bass rosins I use (20%, 30% and 40% recipes and a combination of them) fits me on any instrument, from the modern double bass to viennese bass to the G violone, on gut or steel, in any part of the world and weather conditions. I'm so happy to have discovered such a flexible and reliable product, which makes me so happy I'd be playing all the time; now I just need a bespoke reminder to stop practicing at night before my neighbours call the police!"

"Leatherwood rosin gives your instrument the voice it deserves! It grips better than any other rosin I’ve tried, leaving you in full control over your instrument so you can project perfectly at any dynamic. If someone had told me that Leatherwood Rosin would make this much of a difference to my playing, I wouldn’t have believed them! Whether you’re tickling or blasting it out, it’s perfect."
"It is simply fantastic to have access to a rosin which is just as bespoke as ones own playing. When one spends a lifetime in the attempt to perfect ones personal voice on the instrument, why not have a rosin that works for your voice from the very beginning instead of its own? In Trio Vitruvi, we can strongly recommend leatherwood bespoke rosin."
“Performing with Leatherwood Bespoke Rosin is an experience that can not be overstated! For our demanding and varied repertoire, and in a wide variety of concert halls, we have finally found a rosin that allows us to maximise our articulation, clarity, volume and sound colour range. As a quartet, we can now create a unified sound of greater depth and precision. Thank you Leatherwood Bespoke Rosin, this is the sound we strive to create!”
"Discovering Leatherwood Bespoke rosin has been great asset to my playing. As a double bassist performing on various types of instruments strung with historical gut strings to modern steel strings and using different styles of bows, I have experienced a new ease in playing which I had not previously known."
“I have been playing the lame sonore / musical saw for 8 years now. For my Cello and Lame Sonora I am always looking for the best equipment. Finding a good comfortable bow was a long process, and finding a good rosin especially for the sound it produces on the saw-blade was even more difficult. After trying all kinds of rosin, this year I tried Leatherwood Bespoke Rosin. Not only I am satisfied with the Leatherwood Rosin when I playing cello but even more I am very very pleased whit this new invention for playing the Lame Sonore. The metal noise from the saw blade when I am bowing is much less, the grip on the saw blade is perfect in both the high and low register. It gives me more confidence when playing this beautiful instrument!”
"What a great discovery! This rosin is perfect, both aesthetically and technically. It is as beautiful as it is practical, very nicely presented, its rectangular shape on the wooden base allows optimal use. Being neither too sticky nor too dry, it allows the hair to adhere to the strings in a fluid and uniform way, as well on gut or modern strings. It is a very good product that I recommend to all my cellists!"
I’m amazed to have tried various types of Leatherwood Bespoke Rosin and to have learnt how good it is for playing different types of bass instruments and music. Works terrific for modern and early music basses. I can honestly say this is the first rosin ever that has fully satisfied me.
"For many years I haven't been able to find rosins which would satisfy me, and some of them were a catastrophe. Leatherwood Rosin is the best I've every tried, and I find it phenomenal!"
"The right grip for the perfect bow control, great and round natural sound!"
"I love Leatherwood rosin because it pleasantly enhances the bow's adherence and the resulting sound. All of this allows you to have more confidence with your gut strings, in any weather and humidity condition. Highly recommended!"
This is the rosin I've been waiting for, since I began playing. We all reach a point in our path to mastering the instrument when we realize what a significant role the rosin has in producing a high quality tone and the Leatherwood rosin delivers without ever failing! And the fact that anyone can choose between different degrees of hardness, adds to the efficacy of this rosin. I strongly recommend it to everyone, regardless the level of playing or musical style!
“ Leatherwood rosin is fantastic. It’s the perfect combination of fine ingredients that allows me to play with the sound and projection I need, without feeling any resistance on the strings with my bow.”
"So far, Leatherwood Bespoke Rosin is quite simply the most beautiful rosin I have ever used. The tone quality is exquisite, while the articulation and tracking are equally exceptional and refined. Having the variety of formulas available is akin to having a broad palette of the finest paints, enabling one to render the most rich and colorful tones in expressive sound. Thank you very much for all the work you have done!"
“Incredible! Goes to the heart of playing!"
The most interesting aspect of this rosin is the traction it gives to your bow, and the possibility to play long notes with a beautiful sound without ever losing control on the string. Really an interesting product!
I am so happy to have discovered Leatherwood rosins. Both on double bass and violin, these rosins give me great freedom in my sound research and articulation. It is a wonderful idea to allow the musician to mix different rosins to get the perfect mix, also depending on the humidity. Thank you for your support in our eternal search for the perfect sound!
This rosin is superb in both quality and design, and gives my erhu a resonant, tridimensional and exquisite sound. Thank you a lot for letting me know about your rosin!
Leatherwood is more than a rosin, it’s art!
Intuition and genius have given life to this modern rosin. The strings produce a warm sound, rich in harmonics that, being free of any unwanted noise, is perfect for recording.
I’m a lifetime reluctant rosin user, but this product completely changed my mind. For the first time in my life I can look forward to putting rosin on my bow and feel enhanced rather than hindered.
Leatherwood Bespoke Rosin generates a formidable connection of the hair to the strings, without being too aggressive, and leaves no debris on the fretboard or the violin overall. A product of exceptional quality, well done!!!
I love the feeling I get from the contact between the hair of my bow and the gut of my string, when using leatherwood rosin. The response is both silky and strong, I feel powerful and precise, and I can really sense the material of the gut right through the bow, allowing for superb control of microdynamics and tone color. In my experience, the rosin doesn’t dry up like other brands may, and remains sticky without it getting too much.
This is the first meaningful rosin innovation in my lifetime. Leatherwood rosins are a truly 21st Century product; my bows and I have willingly made the transition.
